September 29, 2026If you’re considering a lateral move, at some point in the process you’ll likely be asked to provide information for a conflicts check.
Most large law firms have their own detailed conflicts forms. Smaller and midsize firms, however, may simply ask you to provide your conflicts information. If you’ve never been through the lateral process before, you may not know exactly what information to provide—or how to organize it.
I created a simple Lateral Attorney Conflicts Worksheet that you can use as a starting point. It provides a format for listing your clients, other or adverse parties, information about the matter, and the status of the matter.

This is an editable Word document. If a prospective employer provides its own conflicts form or specific instructions, always follow those requirements.
One tip: Don’t wait until you’re asked to start gathering this information. Depending on your practice and how many matters you’ve handled, compiling conflicts information can take longer than you think.
